Bio

DM3 Soul Rebel

Alias Shake aka Soul Rebel was born in Paramaribo, Surinam as Romeo Rudolf Zaandam.

At the age of eight the Zaandam family moved to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. There, Shake and his cousins who only lived one block away passed their time playing street soccer, reading Tarzan and Spiderman comic books, imitating their superheroes Muhammed Ali and Bruce Lee and listening to The Jackson Five.

Having been introduced tot Bob Marley’s live album ... by a friend at the age of twelve, Shake became infected with the incurable ‘Reggae fever’. A new Rasta was born.

Shake’s first Reggae band, The Disciples, introduced him to musicians experimenting with different styles of music and covering tracks. After the split up of the band Shake continued his musical journey with Jah Justice. Shake and the other band members had a splendid time touring around many venues all around the Netherlands.

Bob Marley’s untimely death, however, caused a drastic change in the Dutch Reggae scene and as such also for Jah Justice. Reggae wasn’t as hot as it used to be and Shake’s musical activities gradually moved from the stage to his ‘home studio’.

After several years of low-key musical collaborations with local musicians (Shake had meanwhile moved to the North of the Netherlands), Shake decided to team up with his brother ... (currently ...). Merely accompanied by ... guitar play Shake began a new musical adventure: writing acoustic songs. Convinced by the potential of their new ‘style’ Shake and his brother  boldly competed with artistl like Sem and Bijlhout with their strong line-ups at the ... talent night.

Shake and ... effort to build up a music studio which would enable them to finally create the music they had been longing for resulted in the formation of Solid Love. Featuring four zealous musicians (... on vocals, ... on guitar, .... on bass, ... on drums) with each a different musical background, Solid Love represented an experimental but very promising blend of Reggae and Funk. Due to personal circumstances, however, the band split up. This happened just as they were rehearsing for a very important Dutch music contest for budding talent (‘De Grote Prijs van Nederland’). Yet another band-related disappointment to deal with, Shake decided to move on on his own. .... is the result!
